about me

The ever-growing list of things you probably don't need to know about me:
- My name is Maggie or Magz whatever you feel like calling me! :P
- I have 23 nicknames
- I HATE sexist people! I WILL kill you if you diss ANY woman!
- I have been writing poetry for the past 2 years and stories for 2 months
- I am overprotective with my friends! You WILL die if you diss them
- I love animals! (Minus guinea pigs, pigeons and hamsters)
- I am a very loyal and truthful person and don't like it when people lie to me
- I live for music. If you took everything away and left me with Sally (my iPod, dock called Harry as in When Harry Met Sally) I would be chilled
- My mom has 2 thousand worms to make compost which creeps me out
- There is not enough space on the stupid music list for all of my music!
- I have a phobia of caterpillars and worms!!!!! eeeeeeeeeeew!
- I burst into songs during exams. They're usually heavy metal ones or dodge AC/DC songs
- I have a laptop called Zeus, a Roland keyboard called Ringo, a phone called Bells, a charger called Eddie, a calculator called Flunk and a watch called Salvador (as on Salvador Dali with the melting clocks) DO NOT ASK! :P
- in case you didn't notice, I name appliances!
- All my writing is depressing. I'm not a depressive but just channel my feelings that way. Nearly all of it is true.
-I have a poetry book coming out in a couple months called Permanent Shadow
- My first song I came up with (when I was 5) was called: I'm a piranha!
- I can't read maps
- I natter to myself in my sleep and talk about my day
- I hate shrinks and people ask me if I want to be one. My answer is: "I cause problems so I aint gonna solve yours sucker!"
- I don't love old music, I love ANCIENT music (Rolling Stones, Beatles, AC/DC etc) DON"T JUDGE ME OK???!! I just don't like house music or any other lame stuff like that ;)
- I am the WORST liar in the history of bad liars! And the worst dancer too!
- I got 6% for a Xhosa exam (oops!!!)
- I am an honery dumb blond even though my hair isn't blond. I walk into walls, doors, poles whatever! :)
- There are ONLY 2 things that can make me cry 1) Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls and 2) Permanent by David Cook. Both hit a little too close to home...
- I'm writing a book about a druggie called Recipes for Disaster
- I am agnostic
-I don't like to show weakness or being helped. but I feel a constant need to help other people. It's weird, I know
-Since I was 6 and read a book on Cleopatra, I have been obsessed with Egypt. I really want to go there!
- I live in South Africa and failed Xhosa and hate Afrikaans! Impossibly stupid and pointless languages!
- I am always a bit like the people I write about so Lyla is like me because she swears like a sailor like me (shh! don't tell my 'parentals), Alaska because she is loony and has tons of nicknames and Jake because he has is really strong minded
-I have 11 koi fish (all named after bands), 2 tabby cat and a sausage dog. My surname is with an M so all my cats and dog's names are food with an M
- I hate predictable singers like Hannah Montana, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry etc
-I am so sick of MJ's stupid music! He's dead and we all know the songs so quit playing the sympathy card! Ok, we get it! You're bad but who the hell cares???!!
- I go sleepwalking every time I am on holiday and lock myself out of my hotel room. When I went to a game reserve, my sister had to lock me in my room! She didn't want me to get eaten by lions! :P
- as soon as I move out of my house, I want to get my 5 wrist bands tattooed onto my wrists and 5 tiny stars done just next to the bands too
- I do kickboxing and punch like a guy.... You HAVE been warned! =)
- I hate Valentine's Day because last year, I had a really traumatising time from nov. 08- 14 feb 09. put it this way, my life froze for 5 months and has been in fast forward since

p.s. I have no problem with reading projects but I refuse to read things when people send me messages. I think that it's rude so that is why I don't do it. Read my stuff if you want to and I'll read yours if I want to. Don't tell me how brilliant your project is. If it was that amazing, it would be top of the trendsetters list.

This is a poem about refugees coming into South Africa and how they slip through the fences on the border.

I feel really bad for the refugees and all the xenophobia in Souty Africa, it makes me really sad but you can choose what you think about this. I wrote it yesterday and it is a little sad!

May the rain come and ease the pain

A short poem about an African village that finally gets their rain. In SA, there has been so much rain, its a joke. Anyway, it was written in March so it seems to be a prediction! ;)

Anyway, I like Romeo and Juliet but I love this! Its sooo cool to come up with poetry and like 4am... (I come up with random things at weird time OK?) Hope you like it!!! :)

Poem

What happens to us when we get old? A look at watching someone fade in front of us...

While sitting next to her bed, I couldn't get this image out of my mind. She was in a sort if coma and couldn't move or open her eyes let alone talk... It's short but true. I had seen her go from being all crazy (in a good way) to not moving. A few weeks before she died, I had to say goodbye. I read this to her and as I got up, her eyes were twitching and she squeazed my hand. I like to think of it as goodbye, not a motor-movement

Poison and apple fritters for ...

by MaggieMac

Poem

Waiting for the poison to whither you even further away, for it to bring on the retches… How do you cope?

This was written on the 2nd of October, the anniversary of the day that Lance Armstrong was diagnosed with cancer. I have always been really into cycling and Lance really is an idol if mine. I know it sounds corny but sometimes corny is good. Anyway, he went through hell and came out of it with a smile on his face, something I still have to do... (no, I don't have cancer but I know what if feels like when you start to think that every mirror around you has broken and that you are the rock that broke it all)

Fallen Bricks

by MaggieMac

Poem

They came in.... They took my freedom, power and my home. All they left me with were fallen bricks and tear stains in the dust…

During the Apartheid in SA, the white man came into a place called District 6 and took the people of colour's land away from them. For those of you who don't know the story, here it is -Whites came in because they liked the land and decided to bulldoze the houses and put the people that lived there into small areas - They took away their freedom and rights and didn't let them vote or have a say in their future. If they caused trouble, they were put in jail -It was a bit like the Colonists and the Native Americans in the US of A but ours only ended about 15 years ago - If you still don't get it, google the Apartheid in South Africa

Blank Paper

by MaggieMac

Essay

Why do we write what we write?

I never liked the look of a blank page. They always seemed so dull and boring, as if waiting for someone like me to come and mess it up. I was always awful at art; I couldn’t paint to save my life. When the paper was handed out to me in art class, I was always too scared to paint, worried that I would take a thing of possible beauty and mess it up with my scribbles.

Leaving

by MaggieMac

Poem

The place that you love, know, made friends at and grew up in is no longer going to be home. How do you deal?

Leaving the only place you feel safe at can be really hard. Oh, before you read it, at my school, it is a tradition to sing a final song for the grade leaving and we all write on each others dresses and attack them and vandalize them. We also sing all hundled up crying and stuff. It is me in 8 days ;(

Ebony and Swans

by MaggieMac

Short Story: General Fiction, Romance

When society forbids you from loving someone, how do you live?

Most people think that love knows no boundaries, has no boundaries and makes no boundaries. They think that if people love each other, that will be enough to keep them together. If that is true, then why are Romeo and Juliet dead? Why do divorces happen? Why do children get abused? Why did Eve eat the apple when the God that loved her asked her not to eat it? In the word we live in, how can opposites be together and live in harmony?

To all of those suffering in Haiti. I wish that I could give you more than my words but they are all that I have.

I hope that you all survive this and know that your loved ones are now in a better place. May all the doctors find a way to help you. God bless
