about me

I have had two addictions in life--soy chai and literature. The former was short-lived, and after months of insomnia and sugar/caffeine crashes, I weaned myself off the thick, creamy, delicately-spiced, mouthwatering beverage. But wean myself off of Microsoft Word? Are you KIDDING ME? Ever since I was four years old, I've been spinning elaborate worlds onto paper. Since then, I've given birth to--count 'em--twelve novels (some of which should probably be labeled novellas), at least a hundred pages worth of short stories, and several towers of poetry. Thanks to my numerous planets in Leo (and speaking of that, I'm a raving astrology lunatic, so if you ever want to chat, tell me your sun sign first!) I'm also a wannabe slam poet. I haven't come across that many opportunities, but I participated in a pretty big event in April, where I got to slam my poem "Goodbye, Pants" to a large audience. Now THAT was divine.

Did I mention that I'm seventeen? One semester into my freshman year, I dropped out of that menacing, vacuous institution called high school, and I've been full-time at the local community college ever since. It's been fantastic for me. I got to slam "Ode to a Stale Pastry" and "Ode to Burnt Toast" in front of a large chunk of the student body--that was two years ago, and people are still talking about them! I've also had the opportunity of working with well-known poets Joan Logghe and Miriam Sagan. I'm currently the fiction editor of The Santa Fe Review, a literary magazine supervised by Miriam. Check us out online--we accept year-round!

By the way, I make incredible pancakes. And after I make them, I punch holes through them and string them up with sparkly ribbon. They're called pancake pendants. They first happened on a delirious morning with my best friend, and they're still hanging up around the house. They're one and a half years old by now.

Book: General Fiction, Adventure, Mystery, Romance

I stared at the bottle in my hand--extra virgin olive oil.“Think you’re so great? Why is the universe bent on mocking me?”

Sixteen-year-old Chessie DeLinko doesn’t understand rape. Seriously, how hard is it to keep your pants buttoned? Ignoring the doom and gloom prophesied by Avery Pelican, her telepathic guy friend, she goes for a midnight swim in the Pacific. On the beach, she meets who she assumes to be the love of her life. She doesn’t connect him with the wanted posters and news stories until it’s too late. By the time the sun rises, Chessie is no longer a virgin.

Two months after being raped, Chessie realizes her body isn’t alone; there is definitely a baby happening in there.

Avery has his own problems. He is a hopeless emotional sponge and cannot help but absorb all Chessie’s misery and fear.

And then there’s the rapist. He’s not finished yet. Chessie and Avery find themselves deep in his elaborate revenge plot; and all they have is a jar of almond butter, a pack of tarot cards, and a five-month-old fetus. Time to prioritize. Save their friendship, save the baby, save their lives.
