about me

"nothing is more common than the wish to be remarkable."
-shakespeare

"writers are schizophrenics with a pen and paper."

"the scariest thing to a writer is a blank page."

"i don't believe in fairy tales because the only one who can save a damsel in distress is the damn girl herself."

i am currently the editor-in-chief for my college paper, and was the editor-in-chief of my high school paper as well. i've also had an internship at a local newspaper, but as much as i absolutely am in love with journalism and the stories that come from the career choice (and i have plenty), my main object is to become a young teen fiction writer.

my team and i may be the eyes and ears for my school, and may give a voice to my campus, but i am a writer first and foremost and would love to to have feedback and advice from readers. journalism and creative writing are my lifebloods. besides having regular stories published in newspapers because of my career and being an award-winning journalist, i have had three of my short stories published in literary journals as well. i was also just recently named journalist of the year for 2010 in the state of texas for tccja.

my main goal at the moment is getting past the short story stage. i have plenty of ideas, but they always seem to stop short if that makes sense. if any one has any advice on how to not only write short stories, but a book as well, please message me.

also, you can check out my newspaper online in my website section.
if you have any further questions, comments or concerns please send me a message. i will try and respond as soon as i can to everyone's message and comments. i am very busy during the week, so it may be difficult for me at times. anything i don't catch during the week, i'll try to cover and respond to during the weekend!

note: i switch my picks and watch list throughout the week as i choose, considering points are not taken away after the writer is removed from a picks list. my watch list is also how i keep track of what i need to read.

if i do not get to yours, do not panic. i will. i have a very busy life so please bare with me. if you're not on my watch list to be read, if you've asked me to read a story from one of my forums, and i have yet to get back to you on it, please send me a message doing so. i have a list that i keep track of as well, but sometimes i just need reminding about a story.

again-bare with me. just because i haven't gotten to your piece yet, doesn't mean i wont, doesn't mean i don't like you. every person on this site is a talented writer. i will comment on every piece i read. just be patient if i have yet to comment on a piece you asked me to read.

thanks,
scarlet
-author of inhaling a bullet (a novel in progress), and many other short stories.
-co-author of letters to nikki (also a novel in progress)
-author of seventeen short stories (that have been taken down for edits)

ps. the most important thing i value are my readers. without them, my writing wouldn't mean much. thank you for everyone else who has shown me support by reading and providing feedback on my works. it means the world to me, and i couldn't have gotten this far without each and everyone of you.

one more note:
from my last thread before my hiatus from inkpop:

(i propose a new movement on this day -april 26, 2010. )
it has come to my attention that too many of us inkpoppers are getting caught up in the popularity contests and numbers game. while true, in a professional manor, it's a lot about numbers and money...
however, writing is a passion. and as writers we cannot lose the faith and love we have for it.

so i propose inkpoppers...that each inkpopper take time to themselves out of week and just remember what it's like to fall back in love with writing. it could help you improve and inspire you again. it could refresh yourself... and the way you handle your writing and the writing of others.

here's how:
1. i (insert inkpopper name here) promise to take time off of this site to remind myself of the love of writing and why i do it.
2. i (inkpopper) promise to remind myself that writing is fun, enjoyable and that i can write for the simple sake of writing.
3. i (inkpopper) promise to remember that everybody's story is different, whether it has cliche aspects or not, and that each story has it's own voice.
4. i (inkpopper) promise to remember that like myself, and my own writings, the story wouldn't be what it is today without the characters and events in it. and like myself, only writers can write the story they want to write, and not someone else.
5. in my critics, i (inkpopper) promise to give suggestions that can possibly help make a character more relatable and round, and offer suggestions that might help them improve their work.
6. i (inkpopper) promise to post this on my profile, showing that i know writing is a passion, and as a writer, can understand that other writers know the above as well.
7. i (inkpopper) promise to remember that the love of writing is what brought me to this website, and it's this webite that has helped inspire me and push my limits as a writer and to improve, but i will remember that sometimes.. a break is needed to recall that passion for writing.

ps. don't give me that crap about "well if you have to state it, then you're not a true writer" because in all honesty, sometimes we all need reminding of this. and that's exactly what this is... a reminder.

join the movement. flow.

note: yes i know my book inhaling a bullet is a little confusing at the moment. it is just the beginning. it will all flesh out as the story continues..please keep that in mind. thank you.

Short Story: General Fiction, Romance, Horror, Paranormal

One family, a young couple and a life destroyed by a mistaked tragedy long ago. Is there such a thing as forgiveness?

Marlo Silverman was there to witness a murder. Her parents harsh blame toward her for not stopping it has created a hell for Marlo. She's has had her fair share of destruction, in various forms. To escape it all, it could come down to her destroying herself if forgiveness from her parents turns out not to be an option for the tragedy that struck her family a year ago. Unless her best friend, Jacksyn (Jack) Boudreaux, can save her by showing her family the truth. There's something more to Marlo's memory of that dark day than meets the yellow eyes that haunt her and the newspaper clippings that have showered her small town of recent and past murders. Will they find the mystery behind the eerie memories and haunting attacks on Jack's mind as he moves closer to Marlo and they try to figure out the nature of this beastly ghost? Will Marlo save herself before it's too late? Will the relationship with her family be mended with forgiveness in time?

viewer descretion advised..strong language, disturbing images
