about me

i am a wonderful and epic failure at writing about me's, possibly because i don't like talking about myself.

i'm 20 and in my third year of studies at the university of toronto, where i study english lit and book/media studies (this program, best thing since sliced bread, just saying). so needless to say i read, write, the whole shebang mainly because i have to but also because i love doing it.

and now for something completely different! well, not really, but i'm annoyed at having to write boring stuff about me so i'll throw out some random facts...

what i like: laughing, reading, writing, staring absently out windows, bird watching, post-it notes, playing at the park, trees, british comedy, german comic books, being a goofball, harry potter, my pet fish (rip merlin, i miss you), robin hood, waffles, traveling, a good party, accents, school (minus exams), my laptop (which is named ryley), soccer, hockey, canada, switzerland, music of all genres (except country) <3

what i'm not too fond of: morning subway commutes, repeating myself, slush, beer, football, victorian realism novels, cold, twilight, freud, pain, traffic, people touching my stuff, soap operas, deadlines, beowulf (great epic poem, but having to translate it killed it for me), spam, not having enough room in my bookcase for all my books.

**note: i don't enjoy swaps, end of story. i'll find something to read on my own.

parting thought:
"i don't want to wax philosophic, but i will say that if you're alive you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think noisy and colourfully, or you're not alive."

Blackbird, Fly

by jdegasperin

Book: General Fiction, Humor, Romance

We are what we are, perfectly imperfect

"Blackbird singing in the dead of night..."
Chloe Sinclair wasn't always a simple high school student. Her life was once a chaotic pleasure as she traveled the globe with her brother and musician father. But one day they get a surprise, a life altering one. They are to move from New York City to the small town of Lockston, Ontario; a little known place in the middle of the Canadian wilderness.

Blackbird, Fly starts here, as Chloe finishes her final year of high school, and in the middle of one of her darkest times of life.

"All your life, you've waiting for this moment to be free..."
Freedom is all Chloe wants. Freedom from the town that has never accepted her, freedom from her own doubts and insecurities, freedom from the loss of her past.

Blackbird, Fly is a story about life. It's about living and learning and loving. It's about accepting who you are and finding a place in the fabric work of life.

Three Simple Words

by jdegasperin

Short Story: General Fiction, Romance

Brea spent one night with the one man she loved, it didn't matter that he was dead.

Brea lost everything when she lost Tony. He was the love of her short life, the only person she ever opened up to. After his death something changed, Brea wasn't content to just sit around and wait for things to happen. She had the urge to move, to take risks, to be in the moment. The moment, that's where she lived, not the future, definitely not the past, but solidly in the present. And this works, until one fateful night. Barrier are broken, truths are reveled and three simple words make all the difference.

Becoming Someone Else

by jdegasperin

Short Story: General Fiction, Romance

Jenna was lost; so lost that finding herself was all that mattered.

"Shawn was my life, he was my everything and in a way he was me, or I was him. When did that happen? When did I lose all the life in me and give it to him? Did I even have a life of my own? And if I did, who was living it? Me? Or that stranger that I saw I the mirror?"

If love is patient, can it wait for Jenna McLeary to find herself? After years of living to please her boyfriend, she just wants to know that there is a place in the world for her; a place where she belongs. Inspired by David Cook's "Come Back to Me" this is a story of loss, of finally discovering that by someone else your everything, you become nothing.
