Flicker

by AshleyVictoria

Book: Adventure, Horror, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Romance

Flicker-the only country and last of humanity finds itself no longer safe, overtaken by the very things it was built for keeping out.

In a time not far from this, the world has found itself at its end.
Humans have made a mistake-instead of ending World War V, they ended the world.
Their weapon was supposed to release a toxic gas, killing their enemies. But it didn’t evaporate; instead it floated over the world. When it came back to where it was released, it wasn’t as strong. Instead of killing, it turned anyone who was exposed into Cimmerians-monsters who-if they had the chance-would kill humans in an instant.
The last of the humans built the only country, Flicker, to survive. Black walls were built around the country, protecting them from the monsters.
Leora and Robert were just beginning their lives; seventeen year olds living in Sector 5 of Flicker, when everything that they’ve grown up with is threatened-Cimmerians have broken in.
When they are trapped, the two find themselves surrounded by Cimmerians and alone. Their only hope- to make it to the safe underground facilities. But with monsters tracking their every move, miles to trek and no directions or resources, and growing love for each other, can they survive it?
Flicker takes you through a futuristic world filled with adventure, horror, and romance.

As far as the first chapter goes, fantastic. I have no good critique, and will get to reading the rest of it eventually. Really good!

I just finished the first chapter, and it is excellent. I like the concept so far, and you are great with dialouge. I saw a few errors, though: when the men first walk into the conference room and see the faces of the people, you should change "upmost" to "utmost". Also, when the men first get up to speak, you change tenses with the word "seek". You should change it to "seeked". Other than those, I really like it so far. Adding to my picks and reading the rest soon!

I added this to my picks!
The only issue is there are a couple of small tense changes from present to past, but other than that, this story is truly amazing!

Oh My God! I love this story;p
Just a small thing...the preface is always at the beginning of the book-and i know you put it where it is because the first chapter is kind of a preface also, but i think you should consider having it at the very beginning...it makes it more realistic;)
But anyway...LOVE IT!

It's City of Ember. :) And yes, this story does have that kind of vibe to it, but there are plenty of differences. ^^

I really like this story, and it's pretty well done... It could use a little refining in some places though, and... Sometimes it seems a little stiff. Like, 'My eyes were wide at what he'd actually just said to me'. It doesn't sound entirely natural... There were some other things like that that I noticed, too. For the most part, though, this is good. Just needs a little revision. ^^ All in all, though, nice work!

This is a bit reminiscent of City of Ember (or is it just Ember? I never can remember), but I liked this more.
Well done.

I genuinely like the idea you have going here. Refining a good story makes it a great story.
