Poem
When the man you hate proposes to you, what do you say?!
This is actually a school assignment way back in grade eleven that I got way into; I've edited this a few times since I submitted it for marks! Assignment: in the style (same meter and rhyme scheme) of Sir Walter Raleigh's "The Nymph's Reply to the Shepherd" (which is a response to Christopher Marlowe's "The Passionate Shepherd to His Love"), write Elizabeth Bennet's reply to Darcy's unexpected marriage proposal.

the title immediately drew me in. i'm a huge pride and prejudice fan. this is very funny. you have captured elizabeth well. the pace was a little shakey, but it held firm enough. the ending line was just perfect to keep the tone and finalize it. good jobLANE

Your title immediately caught my attention. I was just thinking I'd like re-read or re-watch Pride and Prejudice today. lolIt was a humorous poem, and I could completely picture Elisabeth telling poor Mr. Darcy off as I read it.Now, a few nitpicks. To be perfectly honest, I found that your pace skipped around a lot. It was a bit difficult to read, as your rhythm wasn't steady and tended to change from verse to verse. Some of your wording seemed awkward, in order to force it to rhyme, which in turn led to the unsteady flow of your pace. I think a bit of re-wording would make this good poem into a great one.

I love the flow of this poem. It's sort of entrancing. I'm no poet so won't be very useful critique-wise, but I definitely liked this one.

Love it! Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books. This is so fitting with the tone of that book - it's haughty with a dash of humour. I can so imagine this poem being read out at an Austen appreciation group.I've read it several times through - it's wonderful. A great tribute to the book and perfect title - all fans of P&P would enjoy this!

liked this a lot, the rhyming kinda threw me off because it makes the poem seem less serious- but I still really liked the poem

I must admit I skipped right to this one when I read the title. I'm a sucker for Austen-influenced pieces. This is wonderful. You've put a smile on my face that is very similar to the one that I wore while reading P&P. The third line is my favorite (though its so hard to choose). Fabulous work!God bless,...,

=D I thought this was wonderfully done. If Elizabeth had ever written Darcy a poem, this would be exactly it. Her tone of voice, her disgust at Darcy's actions are summed up lyrically and concisely in a few short stanzas. Nice job. =D
Brilliant poem- I love it!
I haven't read Pride and Prejudice, but this really sums it up. Good job
